About Gachege Tea Factory’s 275kWp Rooftop Solar

Gachege Tea Factory is the leading CTC black tea manufacturer, with an annual processing capacity of 15,000 tons of green tea leaf. Gachege Tea Factory is located in Githobokoni, Kamwangi Division, Gatundu North Sub-County, Kiambu County, Kenya, and is part of KTDA Administrative Region I.

In a significant step to reduce electricity costs and adopt sustainability goals aimed at reducing carbon footprint, Gachege Tea Factory decided to switch to solar energy and has reached out to Orb Energy. Orb Energy designed and installed a 275-kilowatt rooftop solar system at its tea factory in Gatundu, which delivers approximately 360,000 kilowatt-hours annually, reducing Gachege Tea Factory’s electricity bill by 50%.

Furthermore, Orb’s 275 kilowatt rooftop solar system benefits the environment by reducing 320 tonnes of carbon footprints (CO2e) every year.
